The IRS is continuing to live up to their reputation, I see.

Wilson Kerby was mistakenly refunded an extra $20,000 in 2022.

As soon as he realized what had happened, he hired an accountant and made efforts to get the money back to the IRS.

FOUR YEARS later, the IRS wants the money back PLUS interest and making Kirby's life a living nightmare.

When you need the help, you can't talk to nobody. You've gotta talk to a dang computer!

I feel this, Farmer Kirby. I feel it deeply.

The man is just trying to do the right thing while not getting screwed over by the government, a difficult task in 2026.

Here's News Channel 5:

'She [the accountant] didn't make a mistake, I didn't make a mistake, they [the IRS] made a mistake,' Kirby said.

Instead of resolving the issue, Kirby says the IRS charged him interest on the money he had tried to return and ultimately kept his entire 2025 tax refund.

'Oh, I cried. It hurt me,' Kirby said.

The IRS has not publicly addressed the specifics of Kirby's case, citing federal privacy law.

Kirby says he reached out to anyone who might be able to help.

The man has asked the governor, senators, representatives, and asked his friends to appeal to heaven and pray for him. Yet the IRS persists in their threats of seizing his family farm over a few grand.

Kirby met with the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service in downtown Nashville in mid-July, though he says the visit did not move his case forward. The service is an independent organization within the IRS that helps taxpayers navigate disputes β€” and for many, it can be a valuable first step.

Kirby says his wish is straightforward.

'I wish they would get it straightened out. And get one person to work on it, instead of sending these letters from all over the United States,' Kirby said.

Ahh, government bureaucracy: what would we do without it?

Tennessee Sen. Bill Hagerty said he's instructed his office to get to work on the case:

The other senator from Tennessee, Marsha Blackburn, claimed her office took care of it back in May, but the letters are still coming!

There may be no one with the power to stop a determined IRS.

But John Rich is gonna try:
