This might be the most Seattle story of all time.

A judge in King County was presented a double axe murder case. In just three minutes, he decided the suspect wasn't sane enough to stand trial.

In civilized places, you can't just say, "My client would have to be insane to kill two people with an axe" and then that gets the case dismissed.

But in Seattle, you can!

Here's KOMO News:

Judge Nelson Lee found Liam Harrison Kryger incompetent based on medical reports and dismissed the criminal case during a brief hearing Thursday. Lee also signed an order directing Kryger to undergo a civil commitment evaluation.

Kryger appeared for the hearing by Zoom with his attorney. King County prosecutor Alexandra Logan represented the state. The hearing lasted less than three minutes.

He might be committed to a mental institution. Residents can sleep easy now, right??

It's amazing what you can get away with in blue states if you're demon-possessed and/or off your rocker.

Kryger had been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the February 2024 deaths of Paul Ernest Ewell and Daravuth Van. Prosecutors alleged Kryger was armed with an ax in both killings.

The first amended charging document, filed in May 2024, accused Kryger of killing Ewell on Feb. 10 and Van on Feb. 22.

There is video.

[Warning: No gore, but this depicts an axe murder.]

He allegedly axed one man to death, then wasn't caught, so he tried it again two weeks later.

(Since he won't face jail, think he'll try it a third or fourth time??)

Kryger's own parents say he threatened to kill them with an axe in the past, and stood over their bed with an axe at least once while they were sleeping.

Two years ago, KOMO also noted that the accused man stalked his first victim, checked for cameras, and did all he could to avoid being caught.

Doesn't sound too incompetent to me.

But what do I know? I'm not a Seattle judge.
