This lady took "crazy cat lady" to a whole new level!
From ABC 7:
The Martin County Sheriff's Office rescued 92 animals, including 80 cats and 12 dogs, from a home in the Foxwood community of Stuart, in what Sheriff John Budensiek described as the worst case of animal hoarding he has seen in the county ...
The sheriff's office said animal control had been trying to access the home for about a week, but the homeowner, Gail Giustino, 77, refused to cooperate. Court records show Giustino was issued over 40 citations in 2015 for improper care or treatment of animals, though the case was dismissed. Investigators now believe Giustino, a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier since 1997, collected many of the cats while working her route in the Port Salerno and Coral Gardens areas.
She's stealing the dogs. She's stealing the cats.
Don't worry, though, these were supposedly feral cats and dogs, so local pets are said to have been fine. Still, people are wondering if possibly their missing animals will be found at Gail's home.
This happened in the Foxwood community of Stuart, Florida — described as a "nice house, nice neighborhood" — but inside there were cages, filth, and feces piled up a foot deep in some places.
No air conditioning. Stifling heat. The stench so bad it could make a man vomit.
Bodycam footage shows the nightmare inside. Underweight animals. Missing fur from stress. Some friendly, some basically wild at this point. All of them now at the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast getting the medical care, food, and air that Gail (and potentially others before her) apparently couldn't provide.
You know, at some point, when you're living in a foot of poop with almost 100 animals gasping for air in 100-degree heat, maybe — just maybe — it's time to admit that your "rescue" operation has gone off the rails.
So if your dog or cat is missing, now might be the time to make that call. The sheriff's office has already identified owners for five of these animals and is helping with reunions.
