I've heard all of the bonehead defenses, but saying that it's "dog racism" to dislike a breed of dogs is a new level of knuckleheadedness.

A quick rebuttal to The Punisher's logic:

Ironically, Bernthal is playing directly into the actual racists' hands here.

As Carl Benjamin notes, "the funniest thing about this is that he is not wrong."

Charles Darwin's theories about the superiority of Caucasians as an ethnic group developed into the idea of "races" and eugenics, or selective breeding (and culling) to improve human intelligence, strength, etc. in the same way humans have bred different types of animals for different purposes.

Oh, did your science teacher never tell you the full title of Darwin's book?

"Preservation of Favoured Races"

The idea, as it goes, is that if there is no God, then there's no moral reason not to selectively improve mankind in the same way we've made horses faster and stronger, or dogs meaner and better at tracking.

• Jack Russells were bred to spring foxes from holes. They are small and springy for that purpose.

• Hounds have droopy ears because those ears stir up scents when they drag along the ground. Their noses have more sensory nerves than other "races" or "breeds" of dog.

• Huskies have thick fur, a honed pack mentality, and lots of energy.

• Collies have an ingrained desire to herd things and will go crazy if they don't have SOMETHING to manage.

And pit bulls? Well, pit bulls were bred to fight bulls in a pit.

This savagery and violence is far more common in specific populations of dogs due to their genetics.

If you follow Jon Bernthal's logic about "dog racism," you are actually supporting the idea that discriminating between dogs and discriminating between human groups is the same. He opposes the racism, but buys into the eugenic framework.

The obvious solution to this is to not be an "anti-racist" racist or a godless commie.

The solution is to say that genetics does indeed play a role in biology - it explains why Kenyans tend to be able to run long distances, or why Western Europeans can digest lactose in milk - but that humans are not the same as animals because we are spiritually made in the image of God.

We are therefore "created equal, with certain inalienable rights" despite our biological differences.

In other words, in a sane world, we honor God, respect people, and ban the pit bulls.

In clown world, we pretend God doesn't exist, disrespect people, protect the pit bulls...

...and use idiotic phrases like "dog racism."
