The Tartan Army, as both Scotland's soccer team and its fans are known, have taken over Boston and named it their home away from home.

The fans are especially excited because Scotland hasn't qualified for the world cup since 1998.

And apparently, their excitement has made them especially thirsty.

NBC Boston reports that the Tartan Army is literally drinking the city dry.

Sam Adams says its Boston Taproom ran out of Samuel Adams Boston Lager over the weekend because Scottish soccer fans drank them dry. From Thursday to Sunday, it said the Tartan Army drank four times as much Boston Lager as it normally sells during a typical four-day holiday stretch like the Fourth of July.

The company had to schedule an emergency delivery on Saturday morning just to keep up.

"We've never seen anything like it," said Billy DeCain of the Sam Adams Boston Taproom.

And it's not just the quality lager the Scots are consuming.

‘The White Bull Tavern, there was no beer,' Scottish fan Dave Orr said. ‘The Scottish fans just drank the place dry, and all they had was Bud Light.'

‘Pretty much everything. We ran out of everything,' Paul Morris of The White Bull Tavern added.

Yep, the Scots even drank all the Bud Light.

It's so bad that even the city's distributors have run out of beer.

‘We had our biggest week ever last week,' Oran McGonagle of The Dubliner said. ‘I managed to plan ahead and get an extra delivery last Saturday, and I was told yesterday the distributor has run out too. He's getting his today and the rest of the city is getting theirs tomorrow.'

Good grief! Those Scots must be 40-proof by this point. If you find yourself in Boston while the Scots are visiting, please don't light a match.

How do they do it, you ask? Well, it seems they burn off all the alcohol by shouting and dancing:

The Scottish soccer team plays the Moroccan team for glory and honor on Friday at 6 PM.

Oh, I should mention that the Scots are also putting orange traffic cones on all the city's statues. Back home in Glasgow, they have a tradition of topping the Duke of Wellington's statue with said cones.

Gotta love (or hate) the Scots!
