Beyond parody.

A police commissioner in New York state is facing charges because she allegedly acted as a getaway driver for her gangster son.

Jennifer Lackard was criminally charged earlier this week for helping her son escape from a shooting in the Bronx last month.

Here's ABC News:

A public safety official for a New York state police department faces criminal charges, including attempted murder, for allegedly helping her son flee a gang-related shooting in New York City, according to authorities ...

Lackard, 49, worked for the Mount Vernon Police Department's public safety department as the deputy commissioner of wellness. She has been terminated effective immediately, the police department said Tuesday.

I guess she misunderstood that "protect and serve" was supposed to refer to the public and not your own criminal family members.

(I bet she considers herself a "fun mom.")

Lackard and her son, 20-year-old Chase Lackard, were arrested Tuesday morning and charged with attempted murder, attempted assault, criminal possession of a firearm, conspiracy and reckless endangerment, the New York Police Department said.

Police alleged that Lackard's son opened fire toward a group of individuals midday on June 29 outside the Bronx Criminal Courthouse. He was allegedly aiming at a rival gang member but did not strike anyone, police told WABC. He is accused of then fleeing the scene in a vehicle being driven by Lackard, according to police.

Mount Vernon PD has canned the deputy commissioner.

Anyway, one must wonder why Mount Vernon chose this obviously qualified, morally excellent person to serve as a leader of its armed law enforcement.

Probably had nothing to do with DEI, right?
