Gau Pooja is the act of worshipping a cow. Not symbolically. Literally. The ceremony involves ritualistic chants and offerings of flowers and other items to cleanse the "energy" of the home. Gau Mutra is the urine of cows, which Hindus drink (yes, drink).
Worshipping cows in this way is seen as a way to ultimately honor one of the three chief gods of the pantheon, Lord Vishnu, and ward off evil spirits.
