Back in 2021, Georgia was working on a deepening project in the Savannah River in order to let larger ships get through, when they stumbled upon something fantastic.
WCVB reports,
Andrea Farmer, an archaeologist with the Savannah District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, said the weapons likely came from British ships sunk during the 1779 Siege of Savannah.
‘Most of the cannons were actually still loaded,' Farmer said. ‘So that shows just how quickly they went down.'
Those beauties will be displayed at the Savannah History Museum for their Loyalists and Liberty display for the United States' big 250th birthday bash.
In addition to the 17 newly restored cannons, two cannons displayed in their original found condition, three anchor fragments, and other incredible objects will be displayed.
While these are cool artifacts, just a word of caution if you're looking to visit.
The Museum's page also says the exhibit will "will present narratives more reflective of diverse participation in the Revolution."
And here's a screenshot for that will no doubt look like:
Still, there's authentic Revolutionary War cannons on display, so if the eye-rolling DEI shenanigans aren't too unbearable, it might be worth checking out.
