People shouldn't feel that we're oppressed and being forced to, uh, anything, because we're not.

(Says the woman wearing a full face covering because an ancient Middle Eastern warlord wanted to ensure women didn't tempt his barbaric holy warriors with their smiles.)

I don't think anyone is forced to do it.

Maybe she hasn't read the Quran?

Surah an-Nur 24:31: "Tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers..."

Surah al-Ahzab 33:59: "O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused..."

Surah an-Nisa 4:34: "Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allah would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance — [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them."

The Hadith, or collection of the traditions and sayings of Mohammed, has further commands for long veils that cover the head, face, and chest. It also states that a woman's prayer will not be accepted without a head covering. Women are told that they attract the eye of Satan and demons (jinn) if they do not properly cover, and these demons entice men to rape them.

Early Islamic scholars like Ibn Abbas, Ibn Masud, Ubaydah as-Salmani, Qatadah, al-Hasan al-Basri, Said ibn Jubayr, and Ibrahim an-Nakhai all confirm that these coverings are a required mandate for women.

British reporter: 'It's unfair that you're getting totally pummeled by criticism online and no one has reached out to you in order to talk to you.'

You don't need to talk to Khadija to get the joke.

The joke is that a Muslim woman with a full facial covering won an award for female empowerment at the Palace of Westminster.
