Hoo boy.
Out of Montreal on Monday:
[Warning: This angle does not show blood, but it is still graphic as it depicts a shooting]
The next angle shows the actual shooting. I have very quickly removed the audio (lots of swear words) and censored out a dying officer who was crawling away in a trail of blood.
The female officer and the male officer were hiding behind several columns and a planter on the sidewalk that separated them from the shooter, a white, redheaded male with a rifle.
Moments before the videos above, the shooter ran toward the officers' position, crossing the road. He ignored an elderly civilian wearing a hat.
The shooter then took aim and shot the male officer, who pulled himself 10 feet before collapsing and dying.
The shooter began advancing on the woman's position, but that older male civilian in the black shirt was trapped in the crossfire and seemed to panic.
The female officer did not correctly identify the civilian in the heat of battle and shot the civilian point blank.
People are already arguing about it, as you might expect:
The shooter was filmed running to the female cop's position as she took cover elsewhere. Other officers in the area pinned him down and he was shot just a few moments later. You can watch more footage here and here, but viewer discretion is advised.
Police handcuffed the shooter's body for good measure, as seen in another video from an apartment above the scene (I won't show the video as it shows the dead officer's face).
[Warning: Again, this photo depicts a dead body]
There has been no word on the suspect's identity or motive in the shooting in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood of Montreal, though there is a large Jewish population in that area.
The suspect was dressed in camo and clearly meant to inflict damage. Police have refused to confirm that the suspect was dressed in camo, even though we all saw it with our eyeballs, so expect the details on this one to lag.
Besides the officer and the shooter, one civilian died (The Jerusalem Post reports he was a Jewish rabbi named Michael Moshe Mizrahi), but authorities have not clarified if it was the civilian the female cop blasted in the chest.
One other civilian and officer were injured.
We'll let you know when more info becomes available.
