If you are on film cutting a young woman's throat but are too insane to stand trial, it would be best for everyone involved if you were sent to meet your Maker.
We warned you about this possibility back in April. Mecklenburg Superior Court in North Carolina ruled that career criminal DeCarlos Brown Jr. could not stand trial for the state's murder charge against him due to his schizophrenia.
Because we largely got rid of mental institutions in America, insane men like Brown are kept at rehab facilities for a time, but are usually released back into public.
Brown had already been arrested 14 times before he was filmed cutting Iryna's throat in 2025. His first arrests began in 2007 for assault and threats. Many of them were dismissed. He then racked up greater felony charges beginning in 2013 for armed robbery and larceny.
He was out on bond at the time of the murder for misusing 911.
The silver lining with the federal case against him is that he will be sent to a federal facility for treatment, ensuring he isn't turned back loose on the streets of Charlotte in the dead of night (these things have been known to happen).
If medical treatment allows Brown to become competent, he will be marched back to court to stand trial.
Then, after a fair hearing in front of a jury of his peers, we can pray that justice is done. Swiftly.
