Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) delivered one of his signature viral moments at a congressional hearing yesterday when he pressed Southern Poverty Law Center President Bryan Fair on claims connecting pro-life advocacy to white supremacy.

The exchange began when Gill referenced previous SPLC rhetoric suggesting that restricting or banning abortion is a tool used by the far right to maintain white supremacy. He then asked Fair a simple question:

Do you believe pro-lifers are white supremacists?

What followed was a lot of discomfort and very little clarity:

Fair appeared unable to directly answer the question, despite leading an organization that has spent years assigning labels like "racist" and "white supremacist" to various groups and causes.

As Gill pointed out, approximately 40% of abortions in the United States involve black children, despite black Americans making up roughly 13% of the population.

That led Gill to the obvious follow-up:

If pro-lifers are trying to prevent the abortion of unborn children, including a disproportionately large number of black children, how exactly does that advance white supremacy?

Again, no clear answer emerged. And that's the point.

Gill wasn't asking for slogans. He was asking for logic. And Bryan Fair appeared completely incapable of providing any.

Thankfully, Gill then turned to Dr. Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King Jr. and a longtime pro-life advocate, to finish things off.

Pro-lifers cannot, cannot be white supremacists. Pro-lifers believe in life from the womb to the tomb and beyond. Pro-lifers fight for every baby in the womb, regardless of skin color.

We have been aborted as blacks in America disproportionately, and so the white supremacists are Planned Parenthood, who admitted that they do have racist underpinning with an agenda to reduce the black population by abortion.

Nailed it, Dr. King.
