The 31-year-old Congolese migrant has a lengthy rap sheet that includes attempted murder and rape. He served seven years in prison for the attempted murder in 2017.
He is charged with murdering a vacationing Swedish police officer who was in Copenhagen for the world cup.
Officer Christian Zedig was a married father of two young daughters. The 32-year-old was at a World Cup watch party at an outdoor screening along Copenhagen's historic waterfront on June 30 when he saw two groups of men fighting.
Norway's team had just scored a goal against the Ivory Coast, and in the celebrations, some of the African fans reportedly got splashed by the jubilant Norse fans' beers, which led to hostilities.
Being an officer of the peace, Zedig stepped in to break up the fight.
The Congolese suspect is charged with hitting Zedig on the back of the neck, fracturing several cervical vertebrae. Zedig also suffered a brain bleed.
He was rushed to the hospital for surgery but died the following morning.
Danish prosecutors want to give less than a year in jail to the foreign criminal accused of his murder.

The prosecutor currently believes that the sentence for lethal violence should be eight to ten months in prison. The defense argues that the case involves only assault. The suspect will remain in custody for another four weeks. The investigation is still ongoing.
And Aftonbladet:
According to the prosecutor, he faces eight to ten months in prison.
The Congolese man (whose name is being withheld) says he is innocent; prosecutors say they have surveillance footage of the crime.
Copenhagen police said they might charge him with other crimes, and warned the public that the "penalty requirement during today's trial must therefore be seen with reservations."
It is unknown if they will actually bring additional charges, however.
Ekstra Bladet notes that the judge is refusing to let the accused post bail and he must remain in jail for another four weeks until the next part of the litigation process.
So at least there's that?

A memorial service for Officer Zedig was held July 19. Over a hundred thousand dollars has been raised for his widow.
She said this in a statement:
From the bottom of my heart, I want to extend a warm and heartfelt thank you to all of you who have supported me and the children with gifts, love, and care. Your generosity and humanity mean more than words can describe and give us strength in an unimaginably difficult time.
And this:
Some others made the decision that our children will grow up without the best father in the world and that I will live a life without the best man.
Her husband would still be alive if not for Europe's vainglorious love affair with Third World migration.
And now the people in charge might give his accused murderer a slap on the wrist.
