Not the Bee has covered the Minnesota state flag drama for years:
In 2023, Minnesota moved to replace its traditional flag, which was deemed offensive to Native Americans by white liberal women.
Instead, the state used a generic color pattern that just so happened to match the color palette of many competing Somali flags (technically, the nation has a flag, but it is a failed state fractured into many tribes, so it doesn't have one unified flag).
This week, the uber-woke Minnesota Star Tribune was somewhat aghast to learn that most Minnesotans hate the new flag:
Just a third of likely Minnesota voters approve of the new blue-and-white design adopted in 2024, while half are opposed. Another 20% are not sure if they liked the new flag, according to a new Star Tribune/KARE 11/Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication Minnesota Poll.
Not even a third support it! Only 30% said they like the flag.
A full 90% of Republicans said they hate it, with only 2% supporting it.
Even among Democrats, only 55% like the new design.
'I thought that the previous flag really kind of represented the history of our state,' said David Arendale, a Republican from Fridley and retired University of Minnesota professor who taught history courses.
The new one, he said, is 'a nice clean design, I guess, but boy it certainly doesn't mean anything to me from a historical point of view.'
The woke dumb-dumbs who redesigned the flag forgot that flags are symbols, and symbols have to have meaning.
The reason Americans are willing to die for the American flag is because those stars and stripes MEAN something. Heraldry is important. History is important.
Our state flags are no different.
The new flag's supporters, not understanding any of this, said the new design is better because kids can draw it:
David O'Neill, a 44-year-old DFLer from Shoreview, said the new flag is a much better design and said vexillology experts rated the old one poorly. It was not unique, was hard for kids to draw, and suffers from other aesthetic issues, he said.
The Tribune seemed a bit shocked (and I'm honestly surprised they reported this) that even the deep-blue Twin Cities did not have majority support for the flag.
More than half of political independents in the poll also opposed the new flag, and opposition was not limited to deep-red parts of greater Minnesota. In the Twin Cities suburbs and exurbs, 53% opposed the redesigned flag.
The flag did not have majority support even inside Hennepin and Ramsey counties.
JoAnne Andres, a 70-year-old Democrat from Farmington, said she felt the new flag was 'crammed down our throats' without public input, and the public should have a greater chance to voice an opinion.
'I like the tradition of the old flag,' she said.
BECAUSE IT MEANT SOMETHING.
Foreign flags are the symbols of a conquered people. Take back your state, patriots!
