Stephen Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff for policy, jumped on the bandwagon because this is how politics now works:

Miller, a devout Jew who is routinely labeled a white supremacist by left-wing media and the Democrats (but I repeat myself) is a Duke grad and former Breitbart editor who joined the 2016 Trump campaign as a senior policy advisor and worked as the director of White House speechwriting. Many of Trump's speeches and executive orders were co-written by Miller, and he has been a key figure in shaping Trump's approach to immigration and other policies.
Miller also currently serves as the assistant to the president for homeland security, a member of the United States Homeland Security Council that advises the president on the border, terrorism, and other security concerns.
