A traffic camera in New York City captured an unlikely motorist doing 36 in a 25.
It was KITT from Knight Rider.
There was just one problem. The car is and was locked away in a museum near Chicago at the time the ticket was issued.
The Volo Museum posted about the incident on social media:
Well, this is a new one... we got this in the mail today. This is 100% legit. A traffic camera captured Knight Rider's KITT speeding down the streets of New York City. The camera captured the novelty license plate (not a real plate...and also a California plate). Their official system ties the novelty plate to Volo Museum and we got a bill for $50!!! You can't make this up! Our KITT hasn't moved from our museum in years! Does anyone have Hasselhoffs number?
He owes us $50!!!
Apparently, the speeding car was a replica complete with the California license plate "KNIGHT," and somehow NYC's automated system linked that license plate to the Volo Museum in Illinois, which is just about the efficiency you would expect from any New York government agency.
According to the New York Post, just like the NYC car, the museum's car and its license plate are also replicas.
It's not officially licensed with the state of California!
The museum has requested a hearing to fight the ticket.
The New York City Department of Finance said they are looking into the matter.
