Well, this is … random. And sad, if true.
That makes it a little bit of a different situation, doesn't it?
This information was reportedly included in the second ransom note months ago, mind you.
From USA Today:
New details of an unverified ransom note previously sent to at least one news outlet following the alleged kidnapping of Savannah Guthrie's mom, Nancy Guthrie, are becoming public four months after her disappearance.
A second ransom note released shortly after the 84-year-old's suspected abduction in Tucson, Arizona, on Feb. 1 claimed that she was dead, NBC News, ABC News and CBS News reported on Monday, June 22. NBC and ABC cited unnamed people 'familiar with' the case, while CBS referred to 'sources who reviewed the notes.'
The fact that none of this was revealed at the time and the public has been led to believe that everyone was holding out hope that Nancy Guthrie was still alive this whole time is weird.
Nancy Guthrie, who reportedly suffered from heart problems and was dependent upon medication, has not been seen since she was abducted on January 31.
A series of ransom notes soon surfaced, with some believed to be genuine, and others not. Law enforcement has yet to provide any comment on the new reports of the ransom notes claiming Guthrie was dead.
When reached by USA TODAY, a spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff's Department in southern Arizona noted that inquiries regarding ransom notes should be directed to the FBI. The office said in a statement, 'The investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie remains active and ongoing. The Pima County Sheriff's Department continues to work closely with the FBI as investigators follow up on leads, review information, and pursue the facts surrounding this case.'
Bizarre.
Nancy's daughter, Savannah, has since returned to her co-hosting duties on NBC's "Today" show, also making no mention of any early ransom notes revealing her mother's fate.
So, to summarize, Nancy Guthrie was abducted and believed to still be alive, unless she's dead, which she allegedly is, but nobody is saying so.
Got it?
