Jory Thomas and his family were camping near Yellowstone River when they heard cries for help from an overturned raft and paddleboard. Four people were in the water after they hit the pillar of a bridge.
Three made it safely to shore, but one man was in dire trouble. He was clinging to a cooler and seemed dazed.
Thomas did what any of us would do. He emptied his pockets, waded out into the water a bit, and pulled out his trusty lariat.
Then he lassoed that hapless fellow with one toss and pulled him to shore.
(Okay, most of us can't actually do that.)

Seriously, though. One toss is crazy good roping.
Even the governor of Montana was impressed.

According to KTVQ, Thomas has been roping less than a year, and he's already this good.
‘I actually started really getting into roping this year. I went to brandings and started roping cattle then, and I started getting better,' he said. ‘Every afternoon when it cools off, I go out and rope the roping dummy.'
But Thomas doesn't chalk up the rescue to his skill.
‘God was basically putting me in the place of all this,' he said. ‘God was just telling me all of this at the time and saying, "Go get him, you got it, and I believe in you."'
In fact, his grandmother says it was odd for Jory to have his lariat with him at the campground at all.
‘We come down to this campground a couple times during the summer,' she said. ‘Jory comes over quite frequently and has never, ever brought his lariat with him before. And that day he did.'
It sure sounds like God has a plan for the man trying to ride out of life on a cooler.
I hope he finds it soon ... and also stays away from the water for a while.
