Gracie was found right about the time that her story went viral.
National outlets started reporting on this story on Tuesday afternoon. Apparently, Gracie the giraffe is one of a handful that lives on Cedar Hollow Ranch in Real County west of San Antonio.
She's a bit of a loner, and is known to wander to areas that the other giraffes avoid.
From the flippin' New York Times:
Gracie the giraffe took her leave from the Cedar Hollow Ranch in Leakey, Texas, about a week and a half ago, when she was last seen on a game camera west of the area, Vick Jones, the ranch's manager, said.
She remained missing as of Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Jones said.
News 4 San Antonio, meanwhile, reported around the same time that someone had spotted Gracie a "little farther out than expected" from her home.
My favorite part about the request for public help was this post from the Real County Animal Rescue-Shelter:
Me, driving in the vast Texas countryside: "Oh look, a giraffe!"
[I squint to get a better look]
"Oh, it doesn't have rounded ears. Never mind."
😂
As News 4's post said, we have no idea where the giraffe was finally located:
Search and support San Antonio is not saying where Gracie the giraffe was found.
(What did she do, wander onto a secret nuclear base??)
Gracie has lived at Cedar Hollow since May. She's about 4 years old.
Vick Jones, 76, has had giraffes on the ranch for the last THIRTY YEARS.
This is not the first time one of the ranch's giraffes has been on the loose. Several young male giraffes escaped through an open gate, but a storm rolling through drove them back to the barn, Mr. Jones said.
I imagine a Texas thunderstorm would put the fear of God into any runaway, giraffe or otherwise!
