Plumbers in Howell, Michigan, were not expecting to find an engagement ring during a plumbing emergency at a shopping mall.

And yet, that is exactly what happened:

Knowing that the ring likely had sentimental value, the plumbers took it on themselves to ask around and posted to social media in hopes of finding the owner of the ring.

That's when they were connected with a woman named Sue, who works at the Fountain of Youth Spa.

Greg Johnson, owner of Titan Plumbing, told CBS Detroit,

She remembered 10 years ago that a customer that was in her store dropped her ring down the toilet, and Sue and this customer tried to fish it out themselves. They got big rubber gloves, and they were reaching in the toilet trying to get this ring out, and it was gone.

With her help, they were able to track down the owner of the ring: Carol Oram.

Carol and her husband have been married for 60 years. Ten of those have been without her engagement band.

Titan Plumbing took the ring to get a professional cleaning (I'm not sure you can ever truly clean something that's been in the toilet pipes of a shopping mall), and the Orams came down to claim it.

Jason Matznick, general manager of Titan Plumbing, described the moment:

She put it on; she was crying. It was cute.

Titan Plumbing shared this update to the story on their Facebook page:

Seeing Carol reunited with her wedding ring after more than a decade was a moment none of us will forget.

A big thank you to Sue at Fountain of Youth, Kevin at The Gold Depot, and WHMI for helping make it happen. It's not every day you get to be part of a story like this.
