McDonald's is going to stop allowing people to fill their own drinks because of "changing consumer habits."

The rollout has begun, with some stores already putting the soda behind the counter. As other locations remodel, they'll also move the soda. By 2032, we should see McDonald's nationwide go without the self-serve soda fountain.

The shift reflects a broader trend across the fast-food industry, where companies are prioritizing speed, efficiency , and digital ordering over traditional dine-in experiences.
At the same time, McDonald's has rolled out an expanded menu featuring new 'dirty sodas' and refreshers as consumer demand shifts beyond traditional soft drinks and coffee.
I also can't help but think "changing customer habits" has to do with the fact that people keep filling their water cups with free soda. That has to factor into this at least somewhat.
If McDonald's needs a guy, I know a guy...

McDonald's says they're ushering in "a new era of beverages, featuring a variety of Refreshers and crafted sodas rolling out nationwide," so at least there's that.
But I can't help but think McDonald's is getting a little fatigued here and had to make a move.
