Remember last week when we shared the late Charlie Kirk's assessment of "Juneteenth" and how it's meant to replace the 4th of July? All the reasonable moderates said Charlie was wrong and that we weren't being subverted.
It's not supposed to replace Independence Day! That's crazy talk!
Well, here's Joy Reid this year saying the exact same thing.
Black folks, we will take that day off, we will barbecue ... Nobody black I know is really excited about the 4th of July because it is ... a celebration of slaveholders who freed themselves of having to pay taxes to the crown for their slave empire.
Whoa! Is Joy Reid saying America is racist? Is she telling us that black people shouldn't celebrate Independence Day because our Founding Fathers owned slaves?
But wait ... there's more:
It's like indigenous people on Thanksgiving ... Black people feel that way about the 4th of July. Whereas Juneteenth is the real thing that 4th of July is. Because we really were not a democracy until we ended slavery.
Well, we're a democratic republic, so...
But hey, I'm just glad Joy has some "dear spicy white friends." If not for them she wouldn't have an excuse for her culturally appropriated hair color — the hair color of the slave owner!
