A Houston man who allegedly killed his pregnant wife and preborn child looks like he'll be enjoying pasta for a while.
Lee Gilley fled to Italy after the alleged murder, and Italy is preventing his extradition to Texas because the heavily-Catholic country disagrees with Texas justice, AKA the death penalty.

That's what not-guilty people do all the time - they flee the country!
Gilley is accused of strangling his nine-week-pregnant wife to death in 2024. He went to court, pleaded not guilty, was put on house arrest, slipped the ankle monitor, then skipped town.
You can bet Italy wasn't a random choice.
Here's more from KHOU in Houston:
Attorney Dick DeGuerin said Lee Gilley remains in Italy, where a court has given the United States until Aug. 31 to answer questions about the potential punishment he could face if extradited to Texas.
According to DeGuerin, the Italian court wants to know whether Gilley could face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole if returned to the United States.
Italy does not extradite people to another country if they could face either punishment, DeGuerin said.
One of America's closest allies is preventing America from seeking justice in the case of two dead Americans according to American laws.
I guess if you murder someone, you can flee to Italy to hang out in a cushy jail cell? Criminal tourism, if you will!
