Since the start of April, 23 people across Japan have been attacked by black bears. Three have died.
In 2025, a whopping 238 people were attacked. Of those, 13 died.

Both figures far exceeded the previous records set in fiscal 2023, when 219 people were attacked and six died, according to preliminary data released by the Environment Ministry.
The government is telling people to avoid remote areas and to carry bells or radios to startle the bears. Another company is making freaky wolf-robots to scare the bears away, but can't keep up with demand:

If Japan requires assistance in its dire moment of need, all it needs to do is let Americans bring their blasters with them.
