The 49ers laid a monstrous egg in 2016, the same year Kap started kneeling. The year before wasn't such a monstrous egg, but a laying of one nonetheless. This after two solid playoff runs in 2013 and 2014 when Kaepernick was killing it.

So no, Harry, Colin Kaepernick was not benched for kneeling during the national anthem. Colin Kaepernick was benched because he wasn't performing well on the field (and sure, this performance might have been, in 2016, due to the distraction of him kneeling during the anthem).
