It's a day ending in "-y," so the GOP decided to betray its voters.

Those Republicans were Thom Tillis, Lisa Murkowski, Cocaine Mitch McConnell, and Susan Collins (because of course). The vote was brought to the table by Mike Lee of Utah.

As a reminder, the SAVE Act would make voter ID required by law.

More than 80% of all Americans support this, despite loud braying from Democrat leaders about "Jim Crow 2.0."

Republicans may very well lose control of Congress in a matter of months, making time of the essence.

If the SAVE Act is not passed, then a lack of voter ID combined with mail-in ballot laws will almost certainly ensure that Democrats never lose another election again. Consider Los Angeles, where Spencer Pratt was running neck and neck with Democratic opponent Karen Bass.

Pratt was well ahead of the third place finisher, by at least 8 points. Because California takes WEEKS to count ballots and does not verify ID (both are TEXTBOOK examples of cheating), Pratt is now predicted to lose, kicking him off the ballot in favor of the socialist candidate.

Suffice to say, conservative voters are not happy.

Some say this most recent development isn't a big deal. This was just another budget vote.

But the SAVE Act has been on the table for months. Senate Majority Leader John Thune has, so far, ignored it. In March, Thune said he would bring the SAVE Act to the floor of the Senate for debate, but then the Senate took a two-week break in April and it looked to be dead in the water.

When the Senate returned, they had a month to consider it, but again, it was ignored. Thune then sent the Senate home for another week-long break (they sure do need a lot of vacation days!), despite a request from President Trump to consider the legislation by June 1.

Voters have been telling Thune to suspend the filibuster to get the law passed before Democrats take power and immediately suspend the filibuster for their own agenda. He has also refused this idea.

It is unknown when Republicans will get around to actually passing the most important bill of our lifetimes in order to save the Republic.
