But that story happened in Texas and was two doofuses wearing Kevlar helmets. This story happened back in March 2023 in Canada with two doofuses wearing a (supposedly) bulletproof vest.
According to CTVNews, Adam John Steenbergen and Mike Leier were out drinking, driving, and snorting cocaine when they decided to head to a remote range and shoot guns.
Safe to say literally none of those things belong in a sentence together.
That's when Leier pulled out a tactical vest with body armor and put it on (no word on what level the armor was).
[He] encouraged Steenbergen to shoot him with a Polymer80 semi-automatic pistol.
‘Don't be a b***h,' he reportedly told Steenbergen. ‘F***ing do it.'
The plan was for the friends to take turns shooting one another while wearing the vest for protection. ‘The two of them had done this before, but with a different bulletproof vest,' the judge wrote.
Leier was shot in the collar, and when Steenbergen tried to call for help, he found that he had no cell service. He tried to drag his friend back to the truck, but the truck was stuck in the snow.
Steenbergen left Leier in the snow and went out to find help on foot. Twenty minutes later, he flagged down another car that helped get Leier to the hospital, but it was too late.
Steenbergen pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to four years in prison.

He was also handed a lifetime firearm ban.
(And here I thought all Canadians had that!)
