The reason these are being described as migrant protests is because the vast majority of those protesting are not white Belgians. Belgium now has over 85% of all citizens under 18 with at least one parent who is not Belgian. At least a third, but potentially half, of all people with Belgian citizenship are foreign-born. Nearly 80% of these foreign immigrants come from the Middle East, Asia, or Africa.
According to reports, these protests erupted over a controversial reform package aimed at tackling a €1.9 billion deficit.
In essence, the government is running out of "free" money and the new Belgians are not happy about it.
Things like higher university fees, extra unpaid hours for teachers, changes to tenure, and reduced school supplies have rioters burning things in the streets.

Lawmakers were actually trying to vote on this fiscal reality check inside the Parliament of the French Community while the neckbeards outside attempted to force open doors and storm the building.
(No word yet on whether or not we're to call it an insurrection.)
