...I think we all have the same reaction:

But as is often the case, Trump is actually sort of on point here!
The story really begins years ago, when, as the Washington Post reports, the world's most prominent climate doom-mongers claimed that a catastrophic climate catastrophe was looming over us:
For more than a decade, as scientists tried to evaluate just how much the planet might warm by the end of the century, the most extreme scenario they considered in models was one in which humanity doubled down on burning of fossil fuels, took no action to limit emissions and suffered profound consequences as the world grew hotter.
We're all familiar with that old routine! And honestly, I'm a bit confused, because I'm regularly told by climate fanatics that we have "doubled down on burning fossil fuels," that we have "taken no action to limit emissions," and that the world has indeed grown catastrophically hotter. They tell us this all the time!
And yet, as the Post reports, things are actually looking pretty decent!
Now, as time has passed and the world has changed, the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change seems poised to retire its most extreme future emissions scenario, commonly known as RCP 8.5, after scientists found that those projections "have become implausible."
Oh really now? "Implausible" you say??
Funny, we skeptics have been saying that for years! I distinctly recall regularly arguing that the grimmest, direst claims of climate hysterics were obviously fantastical and virtually guaranteed not to come to pass. I was dismissed as an anti-science, "climate-denying" luddite as a result!
And yet now "the world has changed" so apparently those apocalyptic scenarios are no longer likely. Well, gee, how has the world changed? Has the world consumed fewer fossil fuels? According to readouts from Our World In Data, well, no:

What about in Co2 emissions total? Well, over about the last six decades, global emissions have roughly remained flat in many industrialized nations, while absolutely skyrocketing in China and India:

So honestly, I'm kind of hard-pressed to figure out how exactly "the world has changed," at least enough to mitigate the worst projections of the climate alarmists!
The Post writes that the IPCC's grim projections were "a worst-case scenario" while scientists have been arguing for several years that that such a scenario "was becoming less and less likely."
Strange, the media and the climate think-tanks never seemed to have gotten that message! One working group of scientists, meanwhile, recently published a paper revealing that even the more optimistic scenarios are becoming unreliable:
The high-end scenario of the past, they wrote, has "become implausible, based on trends in the costs of renewables, the emergence of climate policy and recent emission trends." At the same time, many of the low-emissions trajectories also "have become inconsistent with observed trends during the 2020-2030 period."
Almost as if it's really hard — basically impossible — to predict the climate of the future with any certainty!
