Remember back when Hunter Biden got convicted of violating 18 U.S.C. Section 922 (g)(3), controlled-substance users are prohibited from owning firearms — a conviction from which his father pardoned him?

Well, the Supreme Court just gutted that whole law, so I guess there's no reason to be upset about it anymore.

NBC reports,

The Supreme Court on Thursday barred the government from restricting the gun rights of casual drug users in a case involving a Texas man who occasionally consumed marijuana.

On a 9-0 vote, the court concluded that the government's invocation of the law fell afoul of the Constitution's Second Amendment when it was used against Ali Danial Hemani.

The Court made a point that its decision was narrow and not meant to broadly allow all drug users to own guns, only the casual users who are not presently intoxicated or a threat to others.

The Court's decision is narrow. It does not address efforts to ban addicts or those presently intoxicated from possessing a firearm; other prophylactic laws Congress might adopt after determining that users of a particular drug pose a special risk of misusing firearms; §922(g)(1)'s provision disarming individuals convicted of felonies; or whether the government could bring a prosecution under §922(g)(3) accompanied by individualized proof that the defendant's drug use renders him a danger to himself or others, or proof that a certain drug always renders its users dangerous.

That last line answers the question about the link between marijuana and risk of violence I posed in our initial coverage of this case.

The Court has ruled that just because studies show marijuana increases the risk of violence by 3.2 times overall, it doesn't "always" render its users dangerous, so…
