Dublin, Ohio's experimental autonomous robocop, affectionately known as DubBot, has been sent into early retirement after what must be a record career for any cop.

  • Zero Arrests

  • Zero Criminal Cases

  • Zero Tickets Issued

The robot literally rolled around a parking garage for an entire year, doing nothing but consuming electricity and costing the citizens of Dublin $128,080.

The Columbus Dispatch reports,

The city decided to end DubBot's pilot program after it determined the robot wasn't meeting its operational needs, Dublin police spokesperson Robyn Gray said. It has since been returned to technology company Knightscope, its California-based creator.

The robot was meant to prevent crime, support police operations, enhance the city's emergency response and provide additional support in high-traffic public spaces, Gray said.

Its patrols did not lead to any arrests, criminal cases or tickets, according to Gray. It also never identified any incidents requiring a police response during its patrols.

Essentially, the thing was a giant Roomba without the usefulness of a vacuum.

The city hopes to receive a refund of $60,532 from Knightscope for their meandering tin can, but given Knightscope's financials, who knows if that's possible?

However, thanks to the movies there is one thing we know for sure:

As a retiring cop, old DubBot is not long for this world.
