Pretty on-brand for a government gun buyback program.
No lie, it happened this week in Tzintzuntzan, Michoacán. Soldiers from the Secretariat of National Defense who were participating in the "Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace" program (it's really called that) were destroying weapons and apparently thought a loaded shotgun would do well under a circular saw.
A crowd of people were standing directly in the line of fire, and four people were hit with shrapnel or pellets.
All four are apparently doing okay after medical treatment.
Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla explained the "good news" here:
Surely, some cartridge remained in the chamber or stayed inside the weapon.
Oh yeah, I sure am glad the people who are taking away firearms from citizens only shot four people with a partial cartridge of pellets instead of a whole round.
(Next time, clear the weapon, bro.)
This disarmament program was relaunched under President Claudia Sheinbaum, because of course.
I'm sorry, but of all the countries in the world that would ask me to give my guns away, I would not do it in Mexico.
