No wonder people don't trust the media.
An awful story, to be sure. But there's just one little catch about that headline. Her boyfriend, who was arrested on an unrelated charge, was named as a person of interest in the killing.
Oh, and he's black, so there's that.
From the NBC News story in question:
A 29-year-old Black woman from Mississippi was found hanging from a tree behind an abandoned home in Jackson last week.
The body was discovered Aug. 3 in the 500 block of Road of Remembrance, the Jackson Police Department said in a statement.
The Hinds County Coroner's Office identified the woman as Tasia Fortune. Police said the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.
Needless to say, the news of a black woman being found hanging from a tree caused quite a stir.
Buried further down in the report, however, is the arrest of her black boyfriend, pictured below.
Terence Anderson, 65, who is said to be a person of interest in connection with Fortune's death, was taken into custody on an unrelated weapons charge, NBC affiliate WLBT of Jackson reported.
Kinda flies directly in the face of the racist-hate-crime narrative, doesn't it?
But that doesn't stop the race-mongering crowd from capitalizing on the opportunity.
