Sometimes a shepherd has to fight off the wolves, no?

That's what Louisiana pastor Tony Spell said after being arrested after a fight involving a man who had allegedly been taunting and harassing the pastor and his family.

Here's what Pastor Spell had to say after the video came out, according to WAFB:

Speaking at a news conference Wednesday, June 24, Spell claimed the young man threatened to sexually assault his wife and grandchildren and kill members of his family.

"He said, Tony, I'm going to rape your wife, I'm going to rape all your grandchildren, and the next time you go out of town I'm going to kill them," Spell said ...

Pastor Spell referenced a Bible scripture from Mark 16:18 while addressing the congregation.

'In my name, they shall lay hands on the sick. And they shall recover. So today, I fulfilled the scripture. I laid hands on the sick. I don't know how much recovery they're going to have, but I laid hands on the sick,' said Pastor Spell, followed by applause from his congregants.

(The theobros will note that this is poor exegesis, but funny as heck!)

'I haven't seen some of y'all worship that hard in years. I should have [did] that a long time ago.'

He extended the right hand of fellowship, as well as a few lefts!

You'll note that self defense does not usually include "running across a four-lane highway." In fact, some states would easily say Spell is in the wrong, and that his neighbor was justified in throwing the first punch because he feared for his safety.

We'll have to see what the great state of Louisiana says.

Oh, this is not Spell's first run in with the law.

He was charged six times during the Covid stupidity for violating the governor's orders against large gatherings.
