China is the future when it comes to government surveillance. Just ask Fox News.
Yes, they have lots and lots of surveillance cameras in China.
We're talking hundreds of millions of cameras — with some estimates north of 800 million nationwide. Beijing apparently has around 11 million of them.
It's called "Skynet" in the cities and "Sharp Eyes" out in the countryside. Because there's nothing like a government program named after a Terminator AI that hunts humans!
So Fox News is just another victim of the surveillance state here.
There's also this. According to NTD News, one Chinese tourist recently documented his five-day visit to Beijing. He came across six security checks and had 15 separate scans of his national ID card.
"Basically, everywhere you go," he said, "you have to scan your ID." Tourist spots, subway stations, public spaces - your trip interrupted again and again by China's need to know exactly who you are and what you're doing.
Fox News gets a $40 ticket and gets to go home.
But 1.4 billion people have to live in this country full time!
