Travelers crossing the border from Memphis, Tennessee, into Mississippi are now greeted with a gentle reminder to be on their best behavior.

WREG reports that DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton has erected a billboard which reads, and I quote:

Barton isn't messing around.

‘We are going to be loud and clear that DeSoto County does not coddle violent criminals. If you bring violence across our state line, we are going to prosecute you aggressively and hold you accountable,' said Barton. ‘People on death row are the losers of life's lottery… If violent criminals are looking for a state that coddles crime, Mississippi is not it. They'd better think twice before they act here.'

Amazing.

This comes after Barton's previous billboard initiative, "TURN BACK NOW," which is a warning to criminals to stay out of DeSoto County.

Mississippi reauthorized the firing squad in 2017 as one of a few different options for execution of criminals, though it hasn't been used since it was legalized.
