Tanner Horner, 34, kidnapped 7-year-old Athena Strand from her front yard while delivering her Barbie present for Christmas. That was in November 2022.
Initially, he told cops that he accidentally hit Athena with his truck, then killed her and hid the body to cover up the crime.
In reality. It was much worse. Horner kidnapped Athena and sexually abused her for an hour while she screamed. The audio was captured by his truck's camera.
From the NY Post:
Jurors were left sobbing in their seats as footage from Athena's murder was played, and some viewers in the gallery even fled from the courtroom as the horrific video cut out and and the sounds of Athena being strangled filled the room.
That clip started by showing Horner lifting Athena into his FedEx truck, with the girl eventually asking 'Are you a kidnapper?' as they drove away.
Horner didn't answer, and instead covered his truck's camera and said, 'You're really pretty. You know that?' as the audio recording continued on.
The truck was then heard stopping, and Horner was heard telling Athena to take her shirt off.
She said 'No,' and began asking for her mom — and then began screaming as the sounds of Horner slamming her into the truck floor filled the courtroom.
Horner then raped her, strangled her, and dumped her body.
Athena's uncle did not mince words during sentencing.

The jury also heard from two other women and a man who said Horner sexually assaulted them when they were younger. Both the jury and the prosecutor remain haunted by what they heard and saw.
On Tuesday, after pleading guilty, the jury sentenced him to death after only 3 hours of deliberation.
He will be executed by lethal injection.

Unfortunately, in our desperately-broken "justice" system, criminals often get taxpayer-funded housing for years before their execution comes. The prosecutor says Horner's case will automatically be appealed by a "matter of law."
God commands that we execute murderers (Genesis 9:6, Leviticus 24:17) after a fair trial (Leviticus 19:15, Deuteronomy 16:18-20), and to not delay in carrying out sentences (Ecclesiastes 8:11).
In an ideal scenario, Horner would be marched immediately outside the courthouse and hung from a short rope.
