This week, game developer Santa Monica Studio announced that it was releasing its newest "God of War" game.
Launched in 2005, the series follows a Spartan demigod named Kratos who is tasked by the Greek goddess Athena with killing Ares, the god of war. After succeeding in his task, Kratos goes on to wage, well, war against various mythological figures.
In the newest game, players don't play as Kratos. Instead, they play as his dead wife Laufey, a giantess from Norse mythology who was the mother of Loki, god of mischief.
Fans don't seem that excited.

Another criticism is that female-led games like to insert cute animals, which seems a bit out of place for a violent, dark game where gods of war smash each other repeatedly in the face. π
