If you spent any time on the internet over the weekend, you probably saw that NBC reporter Julie Tsirkin became a meme for being confused when a crazed gunman opened fire outside the White House.

The moment spawned hundreds of memes across every possible category and fandom.

When things like this happen to the very serious and very important suits in the fake news, the response is usually to condemn the far-right radicals that are undermining the pillars of our sacred democracy by making light of a serious situation.

The dour pharisees in newsrooms never know how to handle a joke.

Except for Julie Tsirkin.

Julie endeared herself to all the "trolls" by leaning into the joke and not taking herself too seriously. Yes, the internet was mocking her for her total lack of situational awareness in a dangerous situation. But instead of defending herself, or getting her network to defend her with some lame PR statement, she decided to play along. She laughed in an age when laughter has become all too rare.

People love her for it.
