Gotta love those hot mics!

There was a lunch session to deal with the Iran war issue. And in the bit where the cameras are allowed in as they're all getting in before the formal conversation starts, you can see an image of Donald Trump sitting down - Mark Carney leaning in to sort of talk into his ear.

And he seems to be trying to reassure the president on the deal that he struck with China to allow Chinese vehicles into the Canadian market in return for tariffs being lifted on agricultural products and seafood.

We can hear him saying to the president, 'It's less than 3% of our cars - 49,000 cars. We put a cap, a hard cap. I thought you would like that.'

And Trump says, 'That's good. I like that.'

This is real difficult for the Americans. They do not want China getting entry into the car market at all in North America.

In February, Carney announced a "strategic partnership" with China to produce more EVs.

More on the G7 Summit from the CBC:

Though the G7 leaders' summit has been dominated by talks on global conflicts, Canada has sought to bring up trade with the United States.

U.S. Canada Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc is set to meet with his counterpart, U.S. Trade Representative Jameson Greer. Canada's chief negotiator Janice Charette is also planning to attend the meeting. Canadian trade representatives were also present at the 2025 G7 meeting in Kananaskis, Alta.

Sources tell CBC News that Canada has requested a formal bilateral meeting with Trump in France, but no meeting has been announced.

As usual, the meeting of world leaders is mostly centering around Trump. The presidents of France and Ukraine were also caught on a hot mic today discussing how to handle The Donald:

Anyway, if Canada needs some quick money to help its floundering economy, maybe it could invest in SpaceX? 👇
