Yes, a 45-year-old man with Crohn's disease was approved for and received MAiD — Canada's government-sponsored assisted-suicide program — after a doctor assessed him for lethal injection right outside a Tim Hortons. Because apparently fast-food restaurants are a great place for death doctors to find potential clients.

I wish I were making this up.

Thomas Dillon reportedly suffered from Crohn's, along with other issues like depression. But instead of, you know, actual medical treatment, ongoing support, or even a conversation, Dr. James MacLean conducted the Medical Assistance in Dying eligibility assessment in a parking lot. They texted back and forth, and then eventually, the death doctor drove him to his final destination.

Dillon's family members, of course, were never made aware of the death assessment!

Dr. James MacLean has a bit of a history of these unprofessional assisted suicides, including a time when he forgot to give one of the drugs to a MAiD victim, who ended up not actually dying after MacLean left the home.

From the National Post:

As part of an investigation by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) into two public complaints made against MacLean, an independent assessor appointed to review a number of MacLean's charts concluded that he 'did not meet the standard of practice of the profession, displayed a lack of judgment and that his conduct exposes or is likely to expose patients to harm or injury in five out of twenty charts reviewed,' according to a summary decision of the college's inquiries, complaints and reports committee.

MacLean was called before the committee to be verbally 'cautioned' with respect to the MAID complaints.

So he was issued some light wrist-slapping and ... allowed to keep offering MAiD with six months of supervision.

No pun intended, but this quote from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario just kills me.

The college takes any complaints brought to our attention extremely seriously as part of our mandate to serve the public interest and ensure safe, ethical, and competent medical care for all Ontarians.

So you'll kill 'em, but in a ... competent way?

Bro, Canada, you're living in a dystopian nightmare...
