Leave it to Republicans to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

While the GOP has been racking up wins in the redistricting war, Republicans from the Land of Lindsey Graham decided they'd rather ... help the Democrats?

From Politico:

Lawmakers on Tuesday failed to reach the two-thirds majority needed to approve a measure that would have allowed them to take up a vote on redistricting even after the legislative session ends later this week. Five Republicans joined all Democrats in voting against the proposal.

Nothing says "we want to win" like helping your opponents to keep you from winning.

The president had made it known that he was paying close attention to the GOP efforts to redraw the state's congressional map. 👇

Despite him "watching closely," it would appear that at least a handful of South Carolina Republicans made sure he didn't like what he saw.

Calls for Governor Henry McMaster to call a special session to move forward with plans to redraw the state's map grew louder, though the governor's office has ruled out the option.

Given Tuesday's vote, any further attempts to change the map will likely be met with similar resistance. Under sustained pressure from national Republicans, McMaster could still change tack and choose to call a special session to move forward with a redraw.

The Republican legislators who refused Trump's urging to fall in line will now wait to see how their decision will affect their political futures.

They could just ask the guys in Indiana who got wiped out in their primaries last week how it worked for them.
