So this is Marxism. A very gay version of it. πŸ‘‡

More from Rufo's City-Journal:

In California, state Democrats have embraced another kind of favoritism: contracts for state-certified gay-owned businesses.

The scheme operates through the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), which regulates privately owned utility companies. California utilities spent more than $43 billion in 2024 on contractors β€” fuel suppliers, surveyors, engineers, and others β€” whose work helps deliver water, gas, electricity, and internet service to California's 39 million residents.

A law passed in 1986 that required state-regulated utility companies to submit plans annually on buying goods and services from female- and minority-owned businesses.

Yes, 40 years ago, this DEI "equity" stuff was already taking root.

Over the decades, the "equity" has prioritized more and more intersectional minority groups, which in turn has excluded the most qualified companies from doing business with state-regulated utilities.

In the years that followed, CPUC faced activist pressure as it implemented the gay expansion. BuildOUT California, a since-rebranded LGBT building-industry organization, sent a letter to the commission arguing that 'homophobia' existed within 'the ranks of the utility companies.' The state's legislative LGBTQ caucus suggested in a 2021 letter that even considering lower gay-procurement targets was 'an insult to the LGBTQ+ community.'

Do you realize how corrupt California is?

(You don't.)

Given 2024 expenditures, if utilities companies met these goals, it means they allocated $633 million to businesses that are gay.

Again, they did business with these companies because of who the owners like to have sex with, not because the owners are the most qualified.

This scheme raises an obvious question: How does a business qualify as officially gay?

You won't be surprised that there is an entity of professional leeches known as Supplier Clearinghouse that exists for the purpose of making sure gay businesses are getting their equitable share of the goods, as dictated by the Gaystapo.

City-Journal gives the example of a tech guy named Horton who decided to be a woman. He filed as the owner of a "lesbian" business, of course.

To prove that Red Ace was 'lesbian-owned,' Horton sent Supplier Clearinghouse a domestic-partner affidavit. To establish that the business was woman-owned, Horton submitted a birth certificate, which had been reissued in Washington State post-'transition.' To prove transgender status, Horton filed a 'therapist carry-letter,' a document from a medical professional certifying transgender identity.

If you are wondering what happens if your gender or sexuality changes mid-contract, then stop it because this is Woke Land and logic makes no sense here.

Think of all the overweight middle-aged women who get paid with your taxes to make sure this bloated "gay-certification" scheme is operating.

These designations came with perks. After Red Ace secured these labels, Horton said, San Diego Gas & Electric brought the company on as a part-time cybersecurity contractor. During the hiring process, Horton told us, a company official said that being on the diversity list made the contract much easier to secure.

Stop for a second.

Forget your public school programming. That sounds wrong, doesn't it?

Imagine you are a random non-gay (normal) dude. You worked really hard to start a cybersecurity business. You are exceedingly qualified and hungry to grow your business. You have a great work ethic and you care about your clients.

You apply for contracts and get rejected over and over because you don't meet their "diversity list."

'If I was a straight, white male, I might be concerned I don't have the same opportunity,' Horton said. 'It worked out great for me.'

Generations of honest, hardworking, qualified Americans have been passed over in contracts, jobs, and education because of this nonsense. The commies hijacked civil rights law that were supposed to make us equal and used it to be vile bigots for their own political agendas.

Do you understand why people are angry?

In California, preferential public contracting is technically illegal. In 1996, voters approved Proposition 209, which banned the state from granting preferential treatment based on race, sex, or ethnicity in public employment, education, and contracting. More than two decades later, in 2020, they rejected an effort to repeal the ban.

And yet, the state of California seems to be violating its own laws in addition to federal law.

Despite the Gaystapo's efforts, utility companies don't seem interested in hiring transgender contractors (for some reason)!

Despite the commission's efforts, however, utilities and businesses don't seem interested in LGBT certification. Large utilities' procurement with LGBT-owned businesses decreased by 5 percent in 2024. Supplier Clearinghouse lists 3,750 Minority Business Enterprises, but only 451 LGBT-certified firms.

This line in the conclusion of my article is my favorite because it sums up gay communism so well:

Californians don't need an energy system delivered by gay contractors; they need an energy system that works.

Someone should probably get the DOJ on the line.
