Fox's Greg Gutfeld, who runs an unapologetically right-wing show on the network, routinely surpasses all the liberal late-night hosts in viewers. While Colbert pretends to be a bastion of snooty civility and sneering objectivity, Gutfeld just has ... well, fun.
Colbert took David Letterman's show, which was known and watched by the majority of Americans in the '90s and '00s, and turned it into an irrelevant news commentary show for a select group of affluent, far-left, older Americans. His show was so irrelevant, in fact, that if his more ridiculous rants were not shared by the right-wing commentariat on social media, the average American might go years without hearing his name.
Many younger people will only remember Colbert for his abject, seething hatred of our current U.S. president.
