Y'all know I will try anything McDonald's puts out. The McSalad Shakers, the McPizza, the Nerds McFlurry, I've tried them all. I'd have even tried the Hula Burger if I'd been alive in the early 1960s!

Alas, as the South China Morning Post reports, I'm not sure I'll ever get a chance to try the, um, "Ebi Burger:"

Taiwan McDonald's announced on Thursday morning that it had immediately suspended sales of the โ€˜Ebi Burger' and the โ€˜Double Ebi Burger' after an importer notified it the night before that random batch testing on the shrimp patties used in the products found 0.7 ppb (parts per billion) of nitrofurans and their chemical residues, which did not comply with food safety regulations.

When the McDonald's manager comes out and tells you the shrimp burger you're eating is filled with "nitrofurans and their chemical residues:"

Yes, "ebi" is another word for shrimp, and yes, apparently some of the shrimp stuffed into these really weird-looking seafood patties contained a type of antibiotic known as "nitrofurans."

McDonald's

According to the Mayo Clinic, nitrofuran is an antibiotic that is "used to treat urinary tract infections." Mayo says you should take this medicine "only as directed by your doctor," so unless your doctor is prescribing McDonald's shrimp burgers, you probably shouldn't eat them.

Per the Post, McDonald's Hong Kong said it "temporarily removed all Ebi Burger and related products from its menu as a 'precautionary measure' to address potential public concern."

Maybe while we're waiting for it to be released again McDonald's can re-release something else in its place ... like the old Onion Nuggets, for instance!
