Sorry, you little people need to give up your farm so we can feed the digital beast!

Folks in Georgia, specifically in Fayette and Coweta counties, are up in arms because Georgia Power wants to use neighboring lands to run the massive amount of electricity to a massive data center.

Stories of Georgians fighting for their families' land have gone viral.

I don't know if any of the fears of high-voltage electricity or any of that sort of thing is warranted or not. But it's also irrelevant. The people who will be directly affected don't want it in their backyard. And Georgia is forcing them to give up their land.

And here's another one:

State Senator Dolezal points out that these data centers in rural Georgia aren't coming from nowhere. The state is incentivizing the data centers through tax breaks and tax credits.

The fight against data centers has striking parallels to the push against nuclear power decades back as noted by WaPo.

A nuclear power plant is honestly less scary than the things these "data" centers will be used for!
