Gamers spend a lot of money buying larger random access memory (RAM) for their computers, but apparently it's not just to make their video games run better.
RAM can also be used as a bullet-deflection device in the not-as-rare-as-you'd-think event where a dog fires a gun. 👇
Techspot reports,
Redditor angelbabyzz writes on r/pcmasterrace that they woke up in the middle of the night to a bang and glass hitting them in the face.
While angelbabyzz was presumably in a daze, the neighbor arrived crying, shaking, and repeatedly apologizing, terrified someone had been hurt. Incredibly, it turned out that the firearm had been discharged by their dog.
Angelbabyzz, a woman living in the US but obviously foreign due to her use of "U" in the word "neighbour," says she found the bullet in her pillow.
The police told the almost-victim that the bullet would have hit her in the head if not for her PC's RAM deflecting the shot. Specifically, an upgraded G.Skill Trident Z RAM stick.
Angelbabyzz says the bullet came through the wall and it looks to be a handgun caliber round, so she likely lives in an apartment building.
[Editor's note: If it were a rifle cartridge, it would have blown through the PC like butter. Unless her hands are very small, the deformed bullet is larger than a 9mm, so likely .40 S&W or .45 ACP pistol round, or some other larger variant. You gun nerds can now be satisfied in knowing a gaming PC with upgraded RAM has stopping power somewhat equivalent to Level III or III+ armor.]
The neighbor, also a woman, has had her gun confiscated and faces criminal negligence charges. Angelbabyzz says she doesn't want to press charges, however, though she isn't sure about the whole "my dog tried to shoot you" claim.
Angelbabyzz now faces the daunting task of finding replacement RAM that hasn't already been scooped up to feed our new AI overlords in their sprawling data-center mansions.
No word on the dog's fate, but someone needs to teach that pooch the basic four laws of gun safety, including "always know what's behind your target."
Have I mentioned how the doggos seem to be on a shooting spree lately?? 👇
